The project for the new Santa Maria Parish Center in Bonavista offers a specific solution to the needs of the program and the liturgy taking as a starting point two premises recurrent throughout the history of the Catholic Church: monumentality and mystery. The church, as a collective and community fact, must be vindicated as a social and urban event. As a place for prayer and retreat, it must propose a singular and transcendent space.
The proposed complex splits the program into two well-differentiated elements. On the one hand the parish center and the rectory and on the other hand the church itself. The goal is to present a corner scheme so as to contain the urban fabric and provide a neutral background to frame the volume of the church. The autonomy provided by such segregation of uses and volumes and their subsequent strategic location allows for a detached building for the church that is singular and abstract at the same time, thus stressing the poetic matters of its architecture.
The parish center building is proposed as a superposition of facilities in three levels that generates spaces opening to the court. This open space solves functional issues and establishes connections with the existing urban context. The church building stands out with a strong spiritual character and relates to the transcendent. The church arises as a great multi-storey volume where down lighting stresses the space vertically inside and transmits a sense for weightlessness and a deep spirituality.

El proyecto para el nuevo Centro Parroquial de Bonavista ofrece una respuesta precisa al programa y a la liturgia partiendo de dos premisas que son recurrentes a lo largo de la historia de la Iglesia Católica: la monumentalidad y el misterio. La Iglesia, como hecho colectivo y comunitario, debe ser reivindicada como acontecimiento urbano y social. Como lugar de oración y recogimiento, debe proponer un espacio singular y trascendente.
La solución propuesta segrega el programa en dos partes bien diferenciadas. Por un lado, el centro parroquial y la rectoría, y por otro lado, la iglesia. El objetivo es plantear un edificio en esquina que contenga la trama urbana y procure un fondo neutro que enmarque el volumen de la iglesia. Esta autonomía lograda con la mencionada segregación de usos y volúmenes y su posterior ubicación estratégica permite plantear un edificio exento para la iglesia que resulta singular y abstracto y enfatiza las cuestiones poéticas de su arquitectura.
El edificio del centro parroquial se propone como una superposición de usos en tres plantas que genera espacios que se abren al patio. Este resuelve las cuestiones de orden funcional y establece las conexiones con el contexto urbano. El edificio de la iglesia destaca con un marcado orden espiritual y se relaciona con lo trascendente. La iglesia se plantea como un gran volumen en altura donde la iluminación cenital tensiona el espacio en vertical y transmite una sensación de ingravidez y honda espiritualidad.
