The proposal for a new hostel located in Herrera del Duque starts with a non-orthogonal grid that converges on a hexagonal system that sits organically on top of the natural landscape. This solution is conceived through a double strategy: on the one hand, there is the need to offer an appropriate solution for the location of the site, on the edge of the urban center and open to the landscape and extraordinary view; and on the other hand, to explore alternatives to the classic orthogonal grid as a geometric tool to find an effective answer to the initial conditions featuring a fragmented geometry, an irregular topography and variable side conditions.

Ideally, we tend to think that architecture should mimic nature and even more so whenever the site offers a remarkable beauty. The proposal tries to redefine the place in order to solve the program needs without altering the essence of the landscape. A series of volumes are carefully placed, establishing new relations with the surrounding greenery. The footprint of the new building on the site acts as a filter between the city and the open fields. It configures as a series of small watchtowers inserted in the landscape and thus offering singular points of view around.

La nueva hospedería de Herrera del Duque crece a partir de una trama no ortogonal que cristaliza en un sistema de hexágonos que ocupan de forma orgánica el paisaje natural. La propuesta nace guiada por una doble estrategia: por un lado, ofrecer una solución adecuada a la situación de la parcela en el límite del núcleo urbano abierta al paisaje y las extraordinarias vistas; y por otro lado, poner en cuestión la trama ortogonal como herramienta geométrica para ofrecer una respuesta eficaz a unas condiciones de partida caracterizadas por un perfil irregular, una topografía en pendiente y unas condiciones de borde variables.

De manera ideal pensamos que la arquitectura debería parecerse a la naturaleza, y más cuando, como en este caso, el lugar sobre el que se actúa es objetivamente bello. La propuesta trata de redefinir el lugar para adaptarlo a las nuevas necesidades cuidando de no desvirtuar su esencia. Una serie de volúmenes son posicionados sobre el lugar estableciendo nuevas relaciones con la naturaleza. La huella de la nueva hospedería filtra el acceso desde el pueblo y lo proyecta hacia el paisaje. El edificio se configura como un conjunto de pequeñas atalayas insertadas en la naturaleza que emergen ofreciendo vistas singulares del entorno próximo.
